Where Has Jigz Been?

Wow it has been a long time since I have done a blog.

First let me say sorry no excuse but I have been busy with work, last February I had got a job with a company called Apadmi (www.apadmi.com) who specialise in mobile development and server solutions.

Here i design beautiful crafted mobile apps for iOS and Android which you may of seen the BBC iPlayer that they have done as well as British Museum.

As well as design I have now also developed a keen eye for User Experience within design to assure that the things we design/develop don't cater for user the designer and devs but the user that will be using them and giving them the best/easy experience out of them.

So to leave it on a lighter note I do have an app in the app store which got released on the 16th of Decemebr but till the PR side of things and words with the client is sorted I can't name it but surely in the new year you will be able to see the app that I had designed for iOS iPhone and iPad.

Soo Merry Christmas and I will be posting in the new year.

Cassie's Cakes | Branding

I have got a new client called 'Cassie's Cakes' and this young lady makes custom cakes/cup cakes for all occasions whether it is birthdays, christenings and weddings etc and she has some good cake talent.

SO basically Cassie needs an image in which establishes what she does and in which she wants to appear to the customer.

my approche to this is having an identity that will fit with the range of designs she does which is a mixture of kiddy, stylish and creative designs. So what I have done is gone through various typography to suit the image of being a cake maker and making easily transferable.

Below are the designs and colours that had been narrowed down to but the colours are not set on.

The styles are more homely with how the type is set in the circle and the choice of two typefaces are to resemble a more feminine touch in the name Cassie then hitting it with the slick calligraphy type in cakes to show the artistic flare in which that the cakes Cassie make.

The typefaces are fitting with the image of a high end deli/confectionary business.

Moving on from the designs they had been further narrowed down to three designs and a colour pallet that was chosen by the client.

Colour pallet

Above is the colour pallet that I had come up with which agreed with the client is how they wanted to look and the various tones that are there to give off.

The colours are not heavy on the eyes also having them blend together is easily done but further more it gives off a cool and relax balance to the logo and how you feel when looking at the brand.

Next approach was to apply these colours to the chosen three logos to see a match.

The final three designs have now been added to final addition of the new pallet in which the client will pick on which colours she feels suits her more to take further to her business cards.

The design and approche to this branding has been to minimize the cost of promoting down. So the with the style being circle the client is able to get them printed on circle stickers which then can be added to the plain white boxes she places her cake in as form of catering identity and advertising and the addition of business cards which will be designed next a form of connecting with people then soon to move on to Facebook page to show her work, promote and most important customer feed back.

Lastly I would like to thank Christine Charnock (UNI BUDDY) for providing me this lead in help with freelancing I appreciate this a lot. check her out christinecharnock.co.uk and Twitter @c.charnock.

URBAN VIBE RADIO | Promotional

I have started working with a new client which are a online radio station based in Manchester.

The guys at UrbanVibe Radio play in a range of urban music ranging from House, Bass-music to Dub-Step, and Old Skool, R&B to Grime music.

The launch for this new online station is First of March 2013 with local DJ's and presenters set to go live with up to date music and great conversation topics.

Firstly I had designed some basic but eye catchy promo posters which will be printed and spread around Manchester and online.

The poster are set to collide with the logo of UVR and because of this being a insight to whats to come the information had to be bold and loud to catch the eye even as the viewer is walking past so their eyes are set on the key points which is the logo and then the types of music they play.

So moving on with the out of studio promotions there had been news of getting a roller banner which they can pop up where ever they are in studio, gigs, events etc so keeping it inline with the posters I had   designed.

The poster are set so that they will be pulled upwards in the roller banner and hooked at the top.

App Design | Asda APG App

So the APG app is moving on a little more with having done a couple of changes also getting more into the flow if userbility and how the user can navigate around more easier.

The simple idea of having the 'I' for info in the top right of the app allows to de clutter the main pages of the app with T&C's and other information that can be tucked away and then be brought up when needed.

Working on arrows for the tabbed menu system
in the information panel

Complete information panel
These tabs are linked to parts of the mobile site so that loading the information
will be quicker and wouldn't make the app heavy. But the labels are
clearly laid out and easy to use.

Once the receipt is scanned this is how the page would
appear with the comparisons of the other retailers and
how much more you would of payed at them stores.
On the 'result page' you will also get some information about if you are eligible for the
spend £40 to get £5 voucher off your next £40 shop.

If the user is eligible for the offer then the button will appear so that they can go onto
saving the voucher as an image, print via the app to airPrint or e mailing it to your
email so that you can access it on your phone and also scan direct when in store.

laying up the page for the single result options
This page shows the single results from the retailer you have selected to get the
information in more detail.

All the products you have bought that are shown on your receipt will be shown
side by side with the price comparison of the retailer.

As mentioned in my notes each different retailer page will be shown in that
companies colour on the price brand to make it custom to the retailer.

Design Juices | Twitter Background for X Mas

Sooo Christmas is approaching and I have been given a task by Design Juices to create art work for their social media pages.

So I have set out to design a background image for their Twitter page (@designjuices) for seasonal times.

I have started on their christmas theme which would take on the most valuable present that everyone would love to receive which is the christmas jumper haha.

I have chosen this idea because with everyone having using tablets, laptops and big screen desktops I wanted the image to be easily scale able to all browser and device resolutions.

The design shows the interface of Twitter and is detailed to work as the feeds that come threw so the background image will cater to most screen sizes.

App Design | Asda APG App

The following are visuals from photoshop on me designing the styling of the app.

potentially the barcode scanner for the receipt jus in need
of adding instructions for the user.

I have gone for the style of a receipt being ripped effect on the
background images for the information.

Instead of displaying all the T&C's on the history page I have added
an info button in the top right where the T&Cs can be viewed
in a pop up window and then easily be closed.

App Design | Asda APG App

Been to Asda and I heard a member of staff complaining about their APG system that they
use to give customers their £5 for a £40 shop.

The process is quiet long it had started of being the customer or staff had to enter the date, time, store number and cashier number to get the information to see if they are eligible for the scheme on the internet.

Now they have to enter the barcode number of the receipt on the internet to to access their information about the offer.

Sooooo, I have come up with a design of instead of having the customers/staff having to enter information into the website is to have an app where the user just has to scan the receipt barcode and having the information run from the database and it uploads it with the comparisons from other retailers, discounts given and also be able to print, e mail or even scan the voucher from the app.

The concept I have come up with is not far fromt the original app but with some additions that would make the user experience a lot more easier and cut down printing and time spent at the store waiting for a member of staff to do it for them.

Here are  the mock ups that I have drawn up for the pages of the APG service:

Above the page is the colour pallet of the headers
and below that is the scanner page design.

APG main page and the addition of some changes
in how the T&C's are viewed to make the system
cleaner and simple.

Viewing the price comparisons of other retailers
and the option to select a specific retailer to see
the price differences.

Voucher page and the option to print the voucher, email or scan direct.

The app would be accessible on the iPad and other tablets seen as the screen is more suitable for this kind of information and style without having it all squashed onto a smaller screen.
